Derek Sisterhen from GetNakedBook.com joins me on the show to discuss his book Get Naked: Stripping Down to Money and Marriage* as part of “Author month” on the podcast. Derek wrote the book after noticing certain trends in couples that he coached over the years. One of the main things he has noticed with newlyweds is that they are unprepared to handle money together.

Get Naked is part autobiography and part encouragement and direction. Derek shares in the book how he and his wife went from arguing over a $40 pillow purchase early in their marriage to paying off a car loan in about 4 months. By being debt free they were able to put a sizable down payment on a home and are able to give freely.

Derek never thought of himself as an author, but after coaching people and working together with his wife, he realized he needed to get his message out there. One of the things he learned while writing was the importance of having an outline prior to writing the book. Derek thinks he will write another book someday and his advice to anyone thinking of writing a book is to just do it!

Currently, Derek is the stewardship ministry director at Hope Community Church in Raleigh, North Carolina. Prior to that he hosted a weekly personal finance podcast titled Past Due Radio.
